Almost every non-world-finale stage ends with a Boom-Boom fight. Some even end with two attacking you at the same time, and that’s got a quirk attached to it. If you kill one and collect the stage-ending item they drop, but the other is still alive, you’ll be frozen in place while the victory music plays, and the living Boom-Boom will still move around and absolutely kill you. So, always kill both.
